Pause Menu

Description

Pressing escape in the pause menu should not exit the game. I would usually expect to get back to the game.

Also, exiting the game in the pause menu should display sometjing like"Do you really want to quit?", maybe with a save option or hint.

I find the sliding effect of the menu kinda annoying, it should just display over the game (maybe even using the current game state as a background).

I really enjoyed the design we used to use, which had 'escape' during the game pause the game, bring up a dialog box where options could be changed, and hitting 'escape' again would return to the game, unpausing.

We can hint to go to a planet to save but I think we're still against mid-space saving.

There should be a graphical difference between the main menu and the game - I don't want it to boot into a running simulation, very few games do that. It doesn't have to be a slide - maybe having the main menu graphic fade out to reveal the running simulation would be cool.

To be clear, I'm advocating both an in-game pause dialog and a main menu as two separate dialogs. This matches the behavior we find in a number of games.

The sliding effect has nothing to do with the time it takes to load, and could be skipped about completely. I suggest that we put the sliding in an option for people that it annoys.
