[epiar-devel] compiling with visual studio (windows)

The only thing that`s needed is to run the bat file CMake in ..\Epiar\Build\cmake and DON`T have any of the dependencies installed. If by any chance you do, you have to change the paths(click on the "advanced" checkbox in the cmake ui to show all of them)

This is how I did it after a whole week of trying with msys. Someone with more knowledge in cmake can write the tutorial, this message is only for immediate use.

Good! If it's not already up, once you chaps figure it out, could you write a page on our Trac explaining how to compile via cmake?

As for your cmake specific questions, Maoserr is the expert and he'll probably respond with more info than I can give you, but cmake is one of the many build systems available and Maoserr maintains cmake files for Epiar.
cmake runs on Windows and Linux and can automatically ensure dependencies are configured and installed (e.g. SDL, libxml2, etc.) and even generates the Visual Studio files should you choose to develop/compile on Visual Studio.
I've never installed cmake on Windows (I use the GNU build tools myself on Linux and OS X) but you can find more information about it here:

              1. I've never used cmake so i'm a little unsure of what configuring you are talking about.

              2. by having the dependencies installed do you mean having the source downloaded and in the directory, or is there another step after that?

sorry for all the questions, i'm fairly new to this so it's a little confusing but i want to learn it so i can help with the project

              thanks

I've mentioned this to arke a couple of times (he's really big on Visual Studio) but unfortunately he's too busy right now t
o work on it.Once somebody has working (and portable! no path dependencies!) Visual Studio files, we should maintain a "Windows" port of the tree -- not merging it into the real tree because, iirc, Visual Studio workspace files are a bit unreasonable in size.On Aug 5, 2010, at 8:18 AM, Maoserr wrote: you don't need to download any dependencies, the cmake script will do thatfor you.On Thu, 05 Aug 2010 00:25:03 -0400, Doug Mirro wrote: _______________________________________________epiar-devel mailing list epiar-devel at epiar.net http://epiar.net/mailman/listinfo/epiar-devel _______________________________________________epiar-devel mailing list
