Should we use OpenGL (2D only) for graphics?
Most definately, better 2D graphics.

Eh, make it an option but keep software-rendered SDL around.

No, my computer can barely take SDL as it is.

I've received a number of compliments on Epiar, but many suggestions as to what to add, as well as questions on where the project is headed. The two topics are both related, as we're heading exactly where people are suggesting. Epiar development is majorly feature focused right now, trying to get areas of the game finalized for a 1.0 release, or at least, working on that. Having missions to hunt somebody, deliever something, etc. is a great idea we're gonna have, multiplayer is a great idea we've got lined up, trading commodities for easy, safe, non-fighting cash, is another idea. All these ideas we plan to implement, so, to answer the question, Epiar is headed to be a space adventure arcade game with a role playing aspect (you can do whatever the hell you want). We're working on it, but we want to continue to hear your suggestions.

Quick update on 0.3.0 development status: I'm working on implementing Adam's HUD (the one with a picture two posts ago), working on Wes's new landing screens, and after that, concentrating on space races. We also did some tests to determine bandwidth usage for multiplayer. Don't worry, it's all in the works.
