Epiar 0.3.0 Now Available

Epiar 0.3.0 is now available in source form. This is our last 'developer-specific' release and should be the object of study for those wishing to dive in and begin scripting and expanding the game universe.

A planning meeting will be held soon for Epiar 0.4.0, which will be our first player-oriented release, complete with binaries and enough game data to get a feel and start becoming involved in the community.

0.3.0 is a vast improvement over our last release, including:

  • Landing Dialog Beginnings
  • Sound & Music
  • Built-in Editor

As always, you can find us in #epiar on irc.freenode.net or use the Contact page to reach us, and happy gaming!

In-Game Debugging/Editing in Latest Snapshot

The programming team has been hard at work getting ready for the eminent release of 0.3.0. In particular, our own knowknowledge has produced some very exciting features that allow for in-game debugging and editing of game objects.

As 0.3.0 is slated to be our last "developer" release before the player-friendly 0.4.0 release, we'd like to take this time to whet the appetites of those who might be interested in hacking on the game, be it writing code or using our ever-evolving scripting language to produce items, missions, add-ons, etc. Enjoy the screenshots, courtesy of knowknowledge!

Plans & Release Schedule for 0.3.0

Our latest Epiar meeting was a success and thank you to everyone who was there.

We have established a set of goals and a deadline, here is the milestone information: Trac 0.3.0 milestone.

Our goals include:

  • Landing dialog
  • Sound support
  • Binaries for each platform
  • Epiar Editor

The release date is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, March 6, 2010.

Epiar 0.2.0 Now Available

Epiar 0.2.0 is now available. 0.2.0, like 0.1.0, is mostly a developer release, meaning that the average gamer might not be interested as a lot of the game-specific elements (like scenarios to play, planets to explore) are not yet implemented. This may be the last developer-specific release depending on our plans for 0.3.0.

Version 0.2.0 is released in source form, which will not be our usual method of releasing the game, but is done on purpose this time to reflect the developer-centric nature of this early release.

Network Developer Wanted

The Epiar project is looking for a network programmer to implement our open source server/client infrastructure to bring a more online and social aspect to the game.

Though we will turn no one down, we are seeking individuals experienced in C++ and network socket programming, possibly with SDL_net.

To apply, join the epiar-devel list and say hello. You can subscribe to the list at our mailing lists page.
